So I had the great opportunity to go to Winter Jam 2015 in Reading, PA last Thursday, January 15th. It is the 5th year in a row that my family and I have gone. Each year we try to bring others with us. To find out why I love Winter Jam click here. I have been dealing with a lot of personal issues – so this could not have come at a better time. I feel that I needed some spiritual revival in my life and this was as good as a place to start. So thank you Newsong and Winter Jam, not only was it a great concert – it was music to my soul. So let us get to the music. I will go in the order that they preformed:
A fairly new group that was formed in 2013 and was nominated for Rock Song of the Year at the 2014 Dove Awards for their song, “We are the Brave”. The song has also been on ESPN for the NCAA Softball. They are listed as alternative Rock.
I did not know who they when I went, but I have to say I was really interested in their sound. If you are looking for a good group who is in the earlier stages of their career – this may be a group for you. I did get their cd which I believe only contains five songs. They were a real find for me
2. About a Mile
These are three brothers from Pennsylvania – So how can I not root for them. They have a good sound and I enjoyed them. Again I did not know who they were before, but I would definitely listen to them again.
Blanca is formerly from the group – Group 1 Crew. I have seen Group 1 Crew at a previous Winter Jam, so I have seen Blanca before. Her hair along with her voice in a dead give away, that she is here. She has a tremendous voice, and she will have a good solo career. It was nice seeing her again.
4. for King & Country
This was the first group that I was really excited to see. Joel and Luke are brothers and they just happen to be the younger brothers of Christian Music’s Rebecca St. James. Again I first met for King & Country at Winter Jam a couple years ago. And was drawn by the absolute fun they seem to have rocking it out for Jesus. I even remember watching them on Jay Leno, when they just killed it. They seem to have so much fun, that you just wish you were up there with them. At this year Winter jam I had floor seats, which is normal, but during their set Joel is running around the floor and just happened to pass right by me and I even got to shake his hand. My wife was soooo jealous. If you have never heard them, please take the time to look them up. To see their set on Jay Leno click here.
They are the host to this great event. What can you say. They have a great heart and put on a great show. Winter Jam would not be the same without there influence and presence. On of the best moments was when Skillet’s drummer came out and sung with them.
6. Family Force 5
This is the first time I have seen them in person. I have seen a couple of their videos on line and I already knew they would be entertaining. For the rest of my family and friends – this was one of the true highlights on Winter Jam 2015. I was not disappointed. They are not my type of band that I usually listen to, but I was thoroughly impressed. The thing that I really appreciated was their heart. They said they knew that they were not the typical band with the typical following but they wanted to worship God in a unique and fun way. And I totally agree. I would not expect the song title “Chainsaw” to be from a Christian band, but that is the title of one of their songs and watching the young kids jamming to it, I had no problem with it. Just because they might be a little different doesn’t mean they don’t have a heart for God. And they put on a great show. Their CD might not be found in my car, but I would go to their show any day of the week and they got my full support. Go rock it for Jesus.
7. Building 429
Another group I was looking so forward to seeing. They put on an awesome show. And I truly love worshiping God with them. Thank you for ministering to my heart brothers. Between them and the next guy is where God really started to light the fire in my heart again. Thank you for being servants of God.
8. Jeremy Camp
I have followed Jeremy Camp for a lot of his career and I own multiple CD’s of his. This was the group I was most looking forward to seeing. And I enjoyed this the most. My wife and I had the pleasure of seeing Jeremy Camp in concert after a Sixers game a couple of years ago. So this was not my first time seeing him. I love how transparent Jeremy has been with his life, and because he is willing to be transparent for God – his impact is soooo much more. To see how he has dealt with pain and healing and here his testimony through song is so humbling and glorifying to God. It is pleasure to worship God with you and he has been a encouragement to me and I love to be able to meet and talk with him one day. I am not the person who likes or wants to meet all these different celebrities, but If I had a chance to pick someone I meet and spend a little time with, Jeremy would definitely be on that very, very short list.
9. Francesca Battistelli
She is a great singer and has a lovely voice and my family loves her and has followed her through her career. My family really enjoy her every time they see her. She is a great performer and if you don’t know who she is – take the time and look her up.
Do I even need to write anything about them here. Even though they are a Christian Band – they are one of the most popular band in the whole world. They have been told that if they would drop the Christian part of their band, they would be consider the greatest band on the planet. But they have remained true to themselves and God and they are still one of the best bands on the planet. And where else can you see one of the premiere bands in the world for only $10. Only at Winter Jam. What can I say – they were awesome. They put on a great show. Like for King & Country they also went around the floor and I changed seats with my wife and he was carried on a small platform right in front of her. They played for about an hour and even had for King & Country come out and Jam with them for a song.
Winter Jam was a great night. They have shows all over the country every year and they just began this leg of there tour, so they might be coming to a city close to you. If you can – get to a show, It is only $10 at the door. Go to http://www.Jamtour.com to find a city close to you.
