Winter Jam is an annual concert series that features 10 artists.  The cost is $10.00.  This year the artists include – Jeremy Camp, Francesca Battistelli, Family Force 5, Building 429, NewSong, For King & Country, Tony Nolan, About A Mile, Blanca, Veridia and is headlined by Skillet.  They have an east coast and west coast portion to their tours.  Winter Jam was created in 1995 by the group called Newsong, although it wasn’t always called Winter Jam.  One of Newsong’s most known Christmas songs is “Christmas Shoes”.

My family and I have been attending Winter Jam since 2010.  We travel to Reading, PA to the Santander Arena to see it.  This will be our 5th year.  It is first come/first serve (you can’t buy general admission tickets ahead of time), so we typically get to the arena between 2pm and 3pm for the 7:00 show.  And we are not the first ones there.

The reason why I love it so much is that where else can you see 10 bands for $10.  And a band like Skillet, none the less.  Plus, being followers of Christ – my wife and I have put a priority of exposing Christian music to our kids.  And we tried to take them to as many concerts as possible.  And it has paid off.  My kids favorite artists are Jamie Grace, Plumb, and Mandisa.  And my kids have gotten to see each of them in concert.  My kids prefer listening to Christian music over secular music and part of that has to do with Winter Jam.  That is priceless.  To know that my kids are hearing positive messages when they listen to music truly makes me very happy.

If you have not had the chance to experience Winter Jam yet – I invite you to come out to a city close by you and try it.  $10 is a cheap night out.  And if you come out to Reading, PA this January 15th – you might just run into me and my family.  We will be there.
